Organic Lavender Oil
(Lavandula angustifolia oil)
Lavender is well recognised for its ability to calm the mind and skin, and it's one of the most versatile and widely appreciated essential oils. French lavender oil (Lavandula angustifolia) comes from Provence.
The early 20th century French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse once burnt his arm during an experiment and accidentally put it in a vat of pure lavender oil, thinking it was a vat of cool water. He was later amazed at how quickly his skin healed and how little scarring was left. As a result, Maurice became extremely interested in the properties of essential oils and studied the topic more deeply. He is credited as 'the father of modern aromatherapy.'
There are about 25-30 different species of lavender, but we only use a few of these.
Lavender plants vary in size and have purple flowering tops.
Organic lavender oil, which comes from the same plant as the French variety (Lavandula angustifolia), is the most versatile essential oil. It is obtained from the flowering tops of the plants grown without the use of pesticides, fertilisers or herbicides.
Organic lavender oil is extracted by steam distillation.
Our organic lavender oil is four times the price of lavender oil.
We use organic lavender oil in our Soil Association approved Therapy massage bar. The lavender oil is calming on the skin and works with the other organic ingredients to relax the muscles.
