Walnut Oil

Walnut Oil

(Juglans regia)

The Latin word Juglans is derived from the Latin Jovis glans, meaning ‘nut of Jupiter’ or ‘nut of the gods.’ It was believed that the gods ate these superior nuts. The word regia means royal and this stems from its role as an important source of food and timber.

The walnut tree, belonging to the Juglandaceae plant family, grows all over the world in places like North and South America, Europe, Asia and has also been cultivated in England.

The large walnut tree can grow up to 100 ft high and 12ft in diameter. In late spring catkins and flowers appear followed by the fruits. The fruits each contain the woody nut.

We buy our walnut oil from the USA and Italy.

When the nuts are ripe they can be picked and cold-pressed to create walnut oil. This is used today as cooking oil in some countries. We cold-press all of our fatty oils for the highest quality.

Walnut oil is vitamin rich and moisturising, as well as an antiseptic, and said to help with many dry skin conditions.

Walnuts were often tossed at Roman weddings, as they believed that they protected against disease and brought good health.

We use walnut oil in our Ceridwyn’s Cauldron bath melt for its antioxidant properties. The oil is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, turning your bath into a nutritious soak for the skin.
